The Egg and I

Brian and I discovered a great breakfast place while we were in Dallas. We actually drove by it on our way to lunch on Saturday and then I looked it up on my Yelp app and it had really high marks. So Brian and I decided that we would eat breakfast there (instead of the hotel breakfast buffet) the next morning before heading back to Wichita. I am really glad we checked it out because the food was surprisingly good. The Egg and I reminds me of The Good Egg here in town.

The restaurant is locally owned and operated, or so the sign on their door says.

Brian and I got there around 8:30 AM and we were one of the first few tables. By 9:00 AM, however, there wasn’t an empty table in sight. I would guess it’s a pretty popular place.

There seemed to be a lot of regulars because the servers seemed to have really great rapport with the customers. They acted very casual and familiar, particularly with this one fella who sat at a booth near us. They’d even sit across from him and chat. Yes, I was being nosy. They were far enough away that I couldn’t eavesdrop on their conversations, though. =P

I had the breakfast special for the day: chicken florentine skillet. Why? Because I love spinach. It was a great choice too because it was very good. The portion was quite generous and I got full half-way through it. I had to restrain myself so I didn’t make a happy plate and end up over-eating, as I have a tendency to do when I think something is delicious.

I even surprised myself at the amount of self-control I demonstrated.

Brian got biscuits and gravy and sausage and fried egg and country potatoes, which is pretty much what he gets everywhere that breakfast is served. He combines everything together to make some sort of breakfast gumbo. It looks quite disgusting, but he thinks it’s absolutely delicious. Who am I to judge?

I figured that none of you would believe that I left food on my plate (because I’m such a pig) so I took a picture to prove it. This is what was left of my chicken florentine skillet when I decided I could not have another bite.

I would have ate it all too, had it not been for the fact that I had to miss my Saturday and Sunday workouts because of our Dallas road trip. LOL.

I look forward to eating there again on our next trip to Dallas. Maybe for the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Margarito boxing match? We’ll see…
