Breakfast of Losers
Yesterday was the longest day ever. Well, not really. I have been up for over 24 hours straight before. Yesterday was a pretty long day in the history of all my waking moments, though.
Brian and I got up at 4:00 AM so we could leave the Wichita by 5:00 AM. Okay, not really. Brian didn’t get up until 15 minutes before we had to leave. I was the only one who got up super duper early. I had volunteered to drive us to Harrah’s NKC so that Brian could nap on the way up the there. I got up early to shower and make sure I was awake enough for the three-hour drive.
As a precaution we stopped by Quik Trip for a cup of cheap cappuccino for me and a bottle of Pepsi for Brian (his morning caffeine fix). Brian was a little worried about my poor eyesight and driving in the dark so he stayed awake with me for a while, at least until he couldn’t stay awake any longer. The drive itself was uneventful. We’d made the drive at least three times in the last month. We arrived at Harrah’s NKC safely and right on schedule.
When we got there, the first order of business was to sign up for the poker tournament. We found out that my Total Rewards card had gotten de-magnetized form being stored in my cellphone case (yeah, don’t do that) so I had to get a replacement. By the time we were done with all of that, I was ready for some breakfast.
I figured that, if we did well in the tourney, we’d be playing poker until well after 1:00 PM so we’d better get some food in our stomachs. As it turns out, neither of us made it past break. LOL. I was counting my chickens before the eggs were hatched (don’t do that either).
I didn’t know that, though. I was expecting to make it to the final table and still be playing poker past lunch so I had me a big breakfast. We skipped the buffet this time and opted to just stop at Corner Grill instead.
This is my big, scary-looking breakfast. It looks gross, but it wasn’t bad actually. Brian took one look at it and told me that my stomach is going to hate me later. At least it won’t be starving. =P
Brian is not much of a breakfast eater but, he was counting on making the final table as well, so he ate a bagel to tide himself over.
I wish that I would have known that we’d get knocked out of the tourney before noon. Then we could have just skipped breakfast altogether. Blech.
