Recent Restaurant Deadpool
Recent restaurant closings via the Wichita a La Carte newsletter:
- Baxter’s Sweet Roll Emporium ~ Brian wins this one. I think he wagered that they wouldn’t last six months. I’m kind of sad because I really liked the chocolate chip flavored sweet rolls.
- Pita Pit ~ It’s even more sad when a place closes before you even get a chance to try it. Brian and I have never been to this place.
- Torre’s Pizzeria ~ This place was like a landmark in Old Town. I can’t believe they’re closed!
Anyway, there’s your deadpool this week. Know before you go. Sign up for the Wichita a la Carte newsletter at Kansas.com/newsletters. It would be kind of crappy to go out of your way to drive to a restaurant only to find out that they’re closed for business.

I wd’ve loved to try Baxter’s but I didn’t even know it existed until last week when I happened to see it while driving past, but I cdn’t tell what exactly it was.

@Cindy, the obscurity might have been part of the problem. People might be less inclined to come in and check you out if they can’t tell what it is exactly that you are selling.
Possibly the other problem was the slow service and the relatively high prices (for sandwiches). They were pricing in the Caffe Moderne sandwich range but didn’t provide the same ambience or service or quality of food for that matter.
The only thing I liked about the place were the sweet rolls, which came in over 60 flavors, and the free open Wi-Fi.
I actually thought that I blogged about this place when I tried it but couldn’t find an entry in the archives. I must have not liked it so much that I decided not to write about it all? I dunno.
