Brian and I got to try Snappy Salads for the first time yesterday. Thank you Sheryll and Clayton for taking us!
This would be a great fit for Wichita because we don’t have anything like it. The closest thing that I could think of is Doc Greens, but it’s still not the same. Brian said that the prices are less and a single bowl of salad can easily feed two people so it’s an excellent value.
Here’s an oxymoron for you.. Snappy Salads is a healthy fast food restaurant. It’s like a fast food joint that primarily serves salads. Wow. How often to do you get to read/hear those works together? Snappy Salads is basically a “build your own” salad joint. Think Subway or Chipotle, where you decide what goes in your food. They offer lots of ingredients and dressing options (so you can make your salad creation as healthy or unhealthy as you like). They also have soups and customizable baked potatoes.
Someone needs to open a place like this in Wichita. I think it would be a hit. We need more healthy options for dining out. If we did, I think John will probably let me eat out more than twice a month. LOL.
We went out to eat (again), against my better judgment. But then, we had a visitor. Minette, who I met last month when she trained us on the eMeter software at work, was back in town. I told mom about her after our training and so I really wanted the two of them to meet on this trip. Not sure when she’ll be back again, so I’m really glad that things worked out tonight.
I’m also really glad that Minette likes Zumba, so I didn’t have to make a tough choice between dinner and Zumba. You all know I’m addicted to Zumba and really hate missing. Minette was actually pretty excited to do Zumba with us. (Thanks, Gina Ann!) We went to dinner at Doc Green’s afterwards. Of course, we really wanted monggo… Mom didn’t have enough notice, though. I’m really glad we got to visit without giving up Zumba.
Here are pictures of our food… Can you tell who got what?
I’m beginning to really, really like Doc Green’s. I like that there are so may choices and most of them are pretty healthy. I also like that kids eat free on Wednesdays, so it’s actually a great value for those with little ones. Brian wants to set aside a Tuesday and attend one of their wine events. I think the best part is that we can indulge and then just walk home. LOL. We have to wait until next month, though, because they only have it every second Tuesday of the month and I already have an appointment with John for next week.
So the next one is July 12. Anyone want to go?
I finally got to go! It was delicious! Prices are a bit on the high side for lunch, but totally worth it. I can’t wait to go back. I just want to try every single soup, sandwich and salad they offer on the menu.
Jan couldn’t wait to dig in.
I have but one advice if you go. Be prepared to wait. Either come well before 11:30 AM or well after 12:30 PM because between those times, the line is out the door. And, they won’t let you get a table until you’ve ordered food. And, they won’t let you order food until a table opens. Yes, it’s that good.
We hadn’t been to Caffe Moderne in a long time so I was glad when Brian decided to take me there for lunch. I was actually relieved that we still got to go to lunch together because Brian said he was conducting training that would last until noon. At 15 after I still hadn’t heard from him, but I figured that the training was just running long. At 12:30 pm, he still hadn’t called me so I was beginning to think that he had forgotten about me.
As it turns out, the training session ran 30 minutes longer than expected, but lucky for us Caffe Moderne wasn’t packed. When the place first opened, you had to be there before 11:30 am or you wouldn’t have a place to sit. I guess the novelty has worn off a little, but the food is still great. Caffe Moderne is still my favorite sandwich place. Their panini sandwiches are unlike any others I’ve ever had anywhere else. They serve the best sandwiches in Old Town, for sure.
My favorite sandwich there is the Garbo: grilled chicken breast, marinated artichokes, parmesan and arugula with a lemon mayo on multi grain bread. It is delicious. Brian doesn’t like it, though. So whenever we split a sandwich, we’ll usually order one of the turkey or ham sandwiches.
Brian ordered the Havana, minus the dill pickles and add mayo. That’s his favorite sandwich there.
Instead of ordering the Garbo (my usual), I was feeling somewhat adventurous and decided to try something new. The Moderne Waldorf to be exact. The description (grilled chicken with celery, apples, and walnuts on spring greens with honey vinaigrette) just sounded really good.
I’m not much of a salad eater, so I was really surprised at how much I liked this one. I like it even better than my favorite panini sandwich. I came to the realization that I’d been missing out, all the time that we’d been going to Caffe Moderne. LOL. The honey vinaigrette dressing is fantastic! I have discovered a new favorite dressing. I’m really glad I ventured outside of my comfort zone.
Here’s one I tasted today!Â
Prep time: 30 minutes – chill to desired temp
- Romaine Lettuce
- Baby Spinach
- Garbanzo Beans
- Sunflower Seeds
- Mozzerella Cheese
- Matchstick Carrots
- Flax Seed
- Olive Oil
- Flax Oil
- Fresh Lemon
Combine all above to desired amounts. Some people like more or less of something. The one I tasted today had extra lemon juice squeezed in and that gave it a hard zing right at the end of each bite that I loved. It’s part of an Abs Diet.Â
